John 3:1–10 — Jesus Teaches the Teacher
A Pharisee and a ruler of the Jews comes by night. He opens with a compliment. Jesus does not take it. Unless one is born again, of water and the Spirit, he cannot see or enter the kingdom of God. Flesh is flesh. Spirit is spirit. The wind blows where it wishes. The teacher of Israel does not understand what the prophets had already said.
For reflection
- Who is He? The one who will not take the title. He knows the teacher of Israel.
- What did He come to do? To say the true thing: you must be born again, of water and the Spirit.
- What does He offer? The kingdom of God, seen and entered only by a birth from above.
- How do you receive it? Not by being a Pharisee or a ruler. By a work of the Spirit you do not command.
